Birth certificate

The birth certificate is the most important document you will receive for your child. It shows the name and surname of your child, the place and date of birth, and also the names of the mother and father. You can already get the birth certificate a few weeks after giving birth at the registry office – called “Standesamt” in German – in your town.

If you want to apply for child benefit, parental allowance or enrol with a health insurance, you will receive special birth certificates made for these applications. You have to submit each original certificate with the proper applications.

You can find the local registry office in the adress box.
