Child benefit

Every child which is registered in Germany (except, for example, some families who have recently fled to Germany) receives some money. The benefit is intended to support families in covering the coasts for their children and it is called child benefit – in German “Kindergeld”. The amount is 250,- € per month.

You can apply for child benefit as soon as you have received your child’s birth certificate. You can apply online or send a written application to “Familienkasse”. In our region, “Familienkasse Sachsen- Anhalt- Thüringen” is relevant for you.

Child benefit is paid until the child’s 18th birthday, or even longer if your child is still at school, in training or studying. It is paid maximum until the age of 25.
